Fevers and

Fever and chills often go hand in hand. If your body has high temperature, the air around you will feel colder than it actually is.

Chills happen when there is rapid contraction and expansion in your muscles to produce and distribute body heat. This occurs as a reaction to a high internal body temperature and cold air around you. Chills can last for several minutes or periodically.

Sometimes, chills are simply caused by cold air. But, they can be associated with the following conditions:

  • Sinusitis
  • Pneumonia
  • strep throat
  • bacterial or viral gastroenteritis
  • flu
  • urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Malaria
  • Meningitis
