Cuts &

A cut is an open wound that is caused by a sharp device, such as a knife or glass shards. On the other hand, an abrasion is when the surface layers of the skin has been scraped. Bony areas with thin skin such as the elbows and knees are more prone to abrasions.

Both injuries are generally not life threatening. However, visit your nearest ModernMD clinic for immediate medical attention if any of the following occurs:

  • If the wound is too deep (more than ¼ inch cut) and the fat or muscle is visible
  • If the wound does not stop bleeding
  • If the wound has a debris embedded in it
  • If the wound is causing pain
  • If you cannot move the injured area
  • If the wound is because of a human or animal bite
  • If the wound is red, inflamed or oozing
  • If you cannot move the injured area
  • If you cannot feel the wound
  • If the injury is on your face
  • If you feel lightheaded or dizzy
