Minor Burns


A burn happens when your skin tissue is damaged because of overexposure to the sun, flames, chemicals, electricity, or smoke inhalation. Minor burns are:

  • Usually painful
  • Accompanied by blisters
  • Accompanied by redness
  • Smaller than 3 inches in diameter

Visit a ModernMD clinic for minor burns if:

  • The area is raw, inflamed or peeling
  • There are signs of infection such as oozing
  • A blister is present and is larger than 2 inches
  • Pain and redness are present more than a few hours
  • The pain never goes away

Go directly to the nearest emergency room or call 911 if:

  • the skin feels leathery or charred
  • your hands, feet, face, or genital area are burned
  • the patient is a baby or a senior
